Hear my prayer O Lord,
And let my crying come unto thee. Misere mei Deus secundum magnam misericordiam tuam. Et secundum multitudinem miserationem tuarum; Dele iniquitatem meam. Hide not Thou Thy face from us, O Lord, And cast not off thy servant in thy displeasure. For we confess our sins unto thee, And hide not our unrighteousness. For thy mercy's sake deliver us From all our sins. I was glad when they said unto me: We will go into the house of the Lord. For thither the tribes go up, even the tribes of the Lord; To testify unto Israel, and to give thanks unto the name of the Lord. For there is the seat of judgement, Even the seat of the house of David. O pray for the peace of Jerusalem; They shall prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, And plenteousness within thy palaces. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be. World without end. Amen. |
Have mercy on me, O God, according to thy great mercy. And according to the multitude of thy commiserations, Take away mine iniquity. |
Lamentations of Jeremiah
|
Incipit Lamentatio Jeremiae Prophetae.
Aleph. Quomodo sedet sola civitas plena populo: Facta est quasi vidua domina Gentium: Princeps provinciarum facta est sub tributo. Beth. Plorans ploravit in nocte, et lacrimae ejus in maxillis ejus. Jerusalem convertere ad Dominum Deum tuum. Heth: Peccatum peccavit Jerusalem, propterea instabilis facta est. Omnes, qui glorificabant eam, spreverunt illam, Quia viderunt ignominiam ejus. Ipsa autem gemens conversa est retrorsum. Teth: Sordes ejus in pedibus ejus; Nec recordata est finis sui. Deposita est vehementer, non habens consolatorem. Vide Domine, afflictionem meam, quoniam erectus est inimicus. Yod. Manum suam misit hostis ad omnia desiderabilia ejus; Qui a vidit gentes ingressas sanctuarium suum. De quibus praeceperas intrarent in ecclesiam tuam. Caph. Omnis populos ejus gemens et quaerens panem; Dederunt pretiosa quaeque procibo ad focillandam animam. Vide Domine et considera, quoniam facta sum vilis. Jerusalem convertere ad Dominum Deum tuum. |
The Lamentation of Jeremiah the prophet begins.
Aleph. Alas! Lonely sits the city once great with people! She that was great among nations is become like a widow; The princess among states is become a thrall. Beth. Bitterly she weeps in the night, her cheek wet with tears. Jerusalem, return to the Lord your God. Heth: Jerusalem has greatly sinned; therefore she has become a mockery. All who admired her despise her, For they have seen her disgraced. And she can only sigh and shrink back. Teth: Her uncleanness clings to her skirts; She gave no thought to her future. She has sunk appallingly, with none to comfort her. See O Lord, my misery; how the enemy jeers! Yod. The foe has laid hands on everything dear to her. She has seen her Sanctuary invaded by nations, Which You have denied admission into Your community. Caph. All her inhabitants sigh as they search for bread; They have bartered their treasures for food, to keep themselves alive. See, O Lord, and behold, how abject I have become! Jerusalem, return to the Lord your God. |

Ubi Caritas et amor, Deus ibi est.
Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor. Exsultemus et in ipso jucundemur. Timeamus et amemus Deum vivum. Et ex corde diligamus nos sincero. Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est. Simul ergo cum in umum congregamur, Ne nos mente dividamur caveamus. Cessent jurgia maligna, cessent lites. Miserere nobis. Hosanna to the Son of David Blessed be He that cometh in the name of the Lord. Blessed be the King of Israel. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest places. Hosanna in the highest heavens. |
Where charity and love are, there God is.
The love of Christ has gathered us into one flock. Let us exult and in Him be joyful. Let us fear and let us love the living God. And from a sincere heart let us love each other. Where charity and love are, there God is. Therefore, whensoever we are gathered as one: Lest we in mind be divided, let us beware. Let cease malicious quarrels, let strife give way. And in the midst of us be Christ our God. Together also with the blessed may we see, Gloriously, Thy countenance, O Christ our God: A joy which is immense, and also approved: Through infinite ages of ages. Where charity and love are, there God is. Amen. O, all you who pass by the way, Attend and see if there is any sorrow like to my sorrow. Hail, Queen of heaven; Hail, Mistress of the Angels; Hail, root (of Jesse); hail, portal, From which the Light for the world rose. Rejoice, glorious Virgin, Beautiful above all others. Farewell, most gracious, And pray for us to Christ. Crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; suffered and was buried. We adore you, Christ, and we bless you. Because with your precious blood you have redeemed the world. Have mercy on us. |
